Gary Dolphin just completed his 50th year in the broadcasting industry, both radio and television, and his 25th season as the play-by-play voice of University of Iowa football and basketball.
A Cascade, Ia. native, Gary has covered most every sport from high school to college and professional. Dolphin was educated at Brown Institute of Journalism in Minneapolis and at Loras College.
Gary Dolphin's career took off while Sports Director at Kdth here in Dubuque. After six years he transitioned to television for 10 years, anchoring News and Sports casts.
Dolphin joined the Northwestern University broadcast team in 1990 and coupled that stint with working in television production for the Chicago Bears from 1989 to 1999.
In 1996 Dolphin was selected as the exclusive network "Voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes".
Dolphin has called three Big Ten football and three conference men's basketball championship seasons including the one a couple of weeks ago in Indianapolis. Gary has voiced his signature "Touchdown Iowa".... at TWENTY bowl games
including the Rose, Orange, Outback, and most recently the Citrus in Orlando.
Dolphin has covered a dozen national award-winning Hawkeyes and himself is a four-time Sportscaster of the year.
Locally Gary has balanced his broadcasting run with a 32-year financial services career at US Bank, serving as Vice President for Business Development, retiring in 2019.
Dolphin has served dozen of charities and nonprofits and presently sits on the boards of the Dubuque Racing Association, United Way, Hills and Dales, and Unity Point Finley Hospital Foundation.
Married to Cindy, they have a son Neil and are proud grandparents of three.
