Join us for our first virtual YP Monthly Luncheon. Young Professionals of Dubuque (YPD) has a current membership of over 2,100 members. YP luncheons feature a presentation on professional, personal or community development.
Our presenter for April is Zach Wahls, Iowa Senator from Coralville, representing three counties in Southeast Iowa, and Vice President of Low-and Moderate-Income Community Development at GreenState Credit Union, Iowa's largest financial cooperative.
Zach will be presenting, Stand For Something That You Believe In. He has always followed what he believed to be right throughout his entire life. As the son of two women, his journey was met with new challenges and possibilities without a road map to follow. Throughout this journey, his principle idea that kept him living passionately was to always stand for something you believe in. This idea has not only gotten him to the Iowa Senate but has remained as guide in a turbulent political time. After his presentation, there will be time for questions to all participants via GoToWebinar.
He and his sister co-created The Woman Cards, which are feminist playing cards featuring hand-drawn illustrations of women and girls who changed the world even though the deck was stacked against them. He is the author of the bestselling book My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family, a graduate of the University of Iowa and received his Masters Degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School. Zach is a proud Eagle Scout, and he co-founded and served as Executive Director of Scouts for Equality, which successfully led the national campaign to end LGBTQ discrimination in the Boy Scouts of America. His testimony before the Iowa House Judiciary Committee about growing up with lesbian parents was YouTube’s most-watched political video of 2011 and has been watched over twenty million times.
