Join us for the YP Monthly Luncheon held on the third Wednesday of each month from 11:45 am - 1 PM at the Grand River Center.
Our March presenter is Sergio Pérez (he/him), Director of Intercultural Program, Loras College. He will be presenting 'Building Communities of Belonging'.
This presentation will focus on how communities of belonging are formed and what we can learn from higher education in building spaces where all can belong. Special attention to understanding how intersectionality plays a role in building our own unique stories and how this framework can make space for individuals different than ourselves.
Sergio holds a BA in Political Science and International Studies from Loras College and M.S.Ed in Student Affairs Administration and Higher Education from the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. Sergio was previously nominated for the President’s Diversity Award at California Polytechnic State University in 2016 when he worked in University Housing. As the Loras Director of Inclusion & Advocacy, he was named a member of the BizTimes Rising Stars Class of 2019 in Dubuque, Iowa. Under his leadership the Loras College Center for Inclusion & Advocacy was awarded the 2019 NASPA Region IV Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and was awarded Honorable Mention for the 2020 NCAA Inclusion Award. He is currently working towards his doctorate degree in higher education and leadership studies from Edgewood College.
Young Professionals of Dubuque (YPD) has a current membership of over 2,100 members, with monthly participation of over 200 members attending YP Luncheons. YP luncheons feature a presentation on professional, personal or community development.
