Event Description:

A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2020 - 7:30 P.M. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., We Shall Overcome showcases repertoire from the African American music traditions that electrified generations of civil rights activists with interwoven spoken word from Dr. King’s recorded speeches. Musical Director Damien Sneed has conducted and collaborated major original works for Wynton Marsalis, regularly accompanies Jessye Norman, and has toured extensively with Diana Ross and Aretha Franklin.

This production, featuring a full ensemble of vocals and instrumentals, ties together music and culture that includes traditional gospel, modern gospel, classical, jazz, Broadway, and spirituals. Sneed’s unique understanding of each genre allows him to cover so much musical ground in a single performance. www.damiensneed.com With special guests UD Concert Choir and Gospel Choir, Prof. Kristen Eby, director.
