Our September speaker is Beth Malicki, News Anchor, KCRG-TV9. Come hear her present, "
Raising a Family While Building a Career in News: A conversation with Beth Malicki." Beth started anchoring when she was 22, got married at 23, and had her first child at 24. Now she’s sending that first born to college and has two more teenagers at home who keep her and her husband from feeling like they know anything.

Beth Malicki has been reporting the news at KCRG-TV9 from the anchor desk since March of 2005. Before KCRG, Beth was the evening weekday co-anchor at KOMU in Columbia, Missouri, where she was also an adjunct instructor at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism. When Missouri’s governor died in a plane crash she provided live coverage overnight and at the time, felt no story would eclipse the magnitude of that event. Then came the flood of 2008 and the station broadcast near-uninterrupted disaster coverage for days. Beth created, produced and moderated the weekly public affairs program, To the Point with Beth Malicki, as a response to the many flood-related stories as well as Iowa’s unique political position in Iowa. That program, as well as Beth’s reporting and anchoring, have earned her recognition including regional Emmy awards, Iowa Broadcast News Association awards, Northwest Broadcast News Association awards and various community awards.

Supporting children living in poverty through education and opportunity is Beth’s philanthropic focus. She’s a founding director of the Zach Johnson Foundation board and oversees its Kids on Course program. The effort provides tutoring, enrichment programming, summer learning camps, mentoring and parent engagement strategies at schools in the Cedar Rapids area with a disproportionate number of students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Beth has also served as the United Way of East Central Iowa co-chair raising $10.33 Million dollars for the 2009 campaign. She’s also written grants earning more than $1.8-Million dollars benefitting children in eastern Iowa from 2013-2017.

Beth and her husband, Brett, are huge Cardinals fans as they are both from St. Louis. They have three kids whom they are living vicariously through in terms of dance, soccer and debate.
