Name: Talk about Group's Work for Nonviolence in Afghanistan
Date: February 16, 2015
Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM CST
Event Description:

Most people know about the war effort in Afghanistan, but few of us know the stories of those who are working to create a nation where peace overcomes violence. The Sinsinawa Dominican Office of Peace and Justice is offering a presentation to inform people of the efforts of peacemakers in Afghanistan.

Join us at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Sinsinawa Mound to hear Patrick Kennelly, director of the Marquette University Center for Peacemaking, share the history of Afghanistan's last 30 years and the peacemaking efforts there. Kennelly's presentation will focus on his work with the Afghan Peace Volunteers. He has traveled to Afghanistan four times since 2011 and most recently during December 2014 to understand how Afghans are using nonviolent solutions to resolve the conflict in their country. He will lead a discussion on what we can do to support nonviolent efforts in Afghanistan, sharing tangible ways to help promote nonviolent solutions there and techniques for practicing nonviolence in our own lives.
