On Friday, March 13th, Park Farm Winery will be hosting a fruit tree and grape vine pruning workshop with Field Specialist/Commercial Horticulturist, Patrick O'Malley. In this hands-on workshop participants will learn the basics of winter pruning to improve the health and productivity of a variety of fruit trees and grape vines.
This fun workshop will be an opportunity to gain a basic understanding of different types of pruning cuts, practices, and tools needed while having the chance to practice pruning under skilled supervision. Many trees benefit from late winter or early spring pruning, just before buds have broken. Pruning is an important step to keeping fruit trees healthy and productive. Improperly pruned or neglected fruit trees can make the tree susceptible to more diseases and decreased productivity. There are many methods and pruning cuts to choose from, understanding the differences and benefits to each will help pruners make informed decisions about when and how a tree is pruned.
Registration for this workshop is $10 and pre-registration is preferred. All attendees will meet at Park Farm Winery. For car-pooling opportunities, please contact Laura Klavitter at 563-583-6496.
