Name: New Organist Emphasizes New Works and Asian Culture
Date: June 29, 2016
Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM CDT
Event Description:

The June 29 concert for the Summer Organ Concert series at Sinsinawa Mound showcases an organist who the Los Angeles Times said has “rare musicality” and “lovely lyrical grandeur” as well as a compositional style that is “charming” and “irresistible.”

Chelsea Chen will play her first concert of the series at 7 p.m. She has played throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. Chen is committed to new music and has premiered her own and other composers’ works throughout the world, including her works based on Asian folksongs. She is a graduate of Juilliard, where she received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and earned an artist diploma at Yale University. Her teachers include Thomas Murray, John Weaver, Paul Jacobs, monte Maxwell and Leslie Robb. Chen has multiple recordings and has been featured on several radio programs, including “Pipedreams” from American Public Media and Taiwan’s Good News Radio. She splits her time between Florida and New York, where she is organist and artist-in-residence at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and artist-in-residence at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

The concerts will continue every Wednesday evening through August. A freewill offering will be accepted.
