Event Description:
Dubuque County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host an educational class on safe home food preservation. Cindy Baumgartner, Nutrition and Wellness Specialist and Master Food Safety Advisor, will introduce and teach the basics of canning, freezing, and dehydrating food during the two-hour "Food Preservation 101" class to be presented from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on August 17. The class will be held at the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Dubuque, located at 14858 W. Ridge Lane (Suite2) in Dubuque.

Individuals who attend the class will: · Be introduced to the most current, recommended methods for preserving foods (boiling water and pressure canning, freezing, and dehydrating foods) ·Sample fresh salsa, prepared on site ·Learn basic culinary knife skills to efficiently cut fresh produce · Take home a folder of excellent handouts, USDA-approved recipes, and other resources ·Have a chance to win valuable door prizes Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.
