The Mines of Spain Recreation Area will present a program a program on "Bird Feeding Tips and Other Information " with Julie Bruser. Julie is from Wildbirds Unlimited at Galena, Illinois. She will provide a a program on bird feeding on Sunday, Feb. 8. The program will be held at the E. B. Lyons Interpretive Center and will start at 1:00 p.m. She will focus on winter bird feeding and why it's a good time to do it. She will show photos to identify bird species typically seen at area feeders. She will provide information on these birds and others and how to attract them. She will have samples of bird feeders and bird seed to show you what is needed for each species and how to use them.

Bird feeding is a major hobby of millions of people. Whether you live in an urban or rural area, you can attract birds to your feeders and have an activity you can enjoy for a life time. There are several species that you can attract to your feeders in the Dubuque Area. Cardinals, Mourning Doves, Tufted Titmouse, Chickadees, and White-breasted Nuthatch are just a few of the song birds to attract. Woodpeckers can include Hairy, Downy and Red-bellied. Carolina Wren, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Rufous-sided Towhees are examples of rare birds that will keep you feeding.
