Bang Lang Do and Friends are performing at the Wednesday, July 6, Summer Organ Concert at Sinsinawa Mound. The concert begins at 7 p.m., and a freewill offering will be accepted. Expect the unexpected at this concert. Concert artist and pianist Bang Lang Do will be joined by organist David Pitt, soprano Jill Heitzman, bassoonist Marcia Martin, and members of the Concordance Ensemble. They will present works of George Frederic Handel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Olivier Messiaen, Jean Langlais, Amy Dunker, and Patricia Morehead. Concordance, comprised of wind, string, and keyboard musicians, specializes in new compositions and interprets Baroque, classical, and romantic masterpieces.

Bang Lang Do received her diploma from the Royal College of Music in London, England, and her master’s and doctoral degrees are from the University of Montreal. She has given concerts in Portugal, Canada, France, Holland, Viet Nam, and Thailand. She served as liturgist and music director at Divine Word College, Epworth, IA, for 10 years. David Pitt is assistant professor of liturgical and sacramental theology at Loras College, Dubuque. He holds advanced degrees in theology (liturgical studies) from the University of Notre Dame and in liturgical music (organ performance and composition) from St. John’s University, Queens, NY. Pitt last played the Summer Organ Concert series in 2011. Jill Heitzman is a full-time assistant professor of music and chair of General Education at Divine Word College, Epworth. She has a master’s degree in vocal music performance from Northwestern University. Heitzman has taught private voice at University of Dubuque and Loras College. James Sherry and Bang Lang Do founded the Concordance Ensemble in 2011. They have performed across North America.
