Date: February 25, 2018
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM CST
Event Description:

The 13th Annual Walk Through Black History will be held at First Baptist Church on February 25th, 2018 at 6 pm. The night will be a mixture of music and dramatic readings from the play, "Fires in the Mirror" by Anna Deavere Smith and directed by Peggy Jackson.

The cast is made up from members of First Baptist Church and the community including students and faculty from the University of Dubuque. The play focuses on the strife resulting in riots concerning the killings of a seven-year-old black child and an Hasidic rabbinical student in Crown Heights.

The growing friction in racial and cultural relations across America are shown through verbatim interviews with Crown Heights' residents, politicians, activists, religious leaders, gangs, street dwellers, victims, and perpetrators alike. Excerpts from "FIRES IN THE MIRROR: Crown Heights, Brooklyn and Other Identities" are presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
