The Dubuque Symphony Orchestra promises an out-of-this-world experience at its 2014 / 2015 season opening concert. The music is grand, exciting and inspired by the galaxy. Eighty-three musicians will take the stage to perform the most famous piece of extraterrestrial music: Holst's The Planets.
The piece depicts the astrological characters of seven planets in our solar system. Its richly-colored orchestration and memorable melodies will leave audiences delighted. The concert will also feature Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto with guest soloist Michael Ludwig. Ludwig is a highly sought-after soloist, recording artist and chamber musician, and has been hailed as one of the great young violinists of our time.
