Maija Rhee Devine addresses contemporary questions raised in her novel, including: Have Confucian patriarchal values vanished from high tech S. Korea? What causes the gender/population imbalance issues? Why does Gen. MacArthur’s legacy still overshadow that of President Truman in Korea? Did a real chance at the unification of Korea under democracy exist? What is the legacy of the Korean War on women and the young generation? What cultural characteristics distinguish Korea from China, Devine explores life in today’s Korea.
In addition, she will offer a preview chapter of the novel-in-progress, Journals of Comfort Women.
